Four North students received recognition from the St. Charles Veterans of Foreign Wars Post for their participation in the 2022-23 Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition. On the local level, junior Jakelyn Leycock won first place, sophomore Saaketh Suvarna won third place and juniors Liza Kadyschuk and Katya Kadyschuk both recieved honorable mentions.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition is a scholarship program run by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In the competition, students submit an audio essay on a patriotic or democratic theme for a chance to win scholarships and other incentives. This year’s theme was “Why Is The Veteran Important?”

North and East students who won locally or received honorable mentions were awarded certificates and checks by Rich Zawislak from the St. Charles VFW Post.
