On May 2, 2024, North’s girls track and field team competed in conference and placed fourth. Throughout the various events, student athletes broke conference, personal, and school records.
Contributing to this placement, was a final time of 9:51 for the 4X800 relay by runners sophomore Reese Thomas, sophomore Elise Pimsner, freshman Julia Rodney and senior Reagan Sipla. In the 4×400 relay, senior Reagan Sipla, junior Ava Miedema, freshman Zoe Ulaszek and sophomore Reese Thomas also set the conference record with a time of 4:02. In the shot put event, junior Tosin Oshin took first place with a throw of 38 feet 5 inches, a personal record. Sophomore Elle Fuhr followed right behind, taking second with a distance of 34 feet, 10 inches.
Thomas credits the Varsity wins to coaches and dedication.
“Our coach gives us good workouts. [I] don’t really take any days off, and it’s been hard but I know it’s all going to be worth it,” said Thomas. “I think everyone on my team is really dedicated and we all work hard. We eat right, we sleep right, and it all comes together.”
The times run by track team members this year are drastically different from years past, and Thomas says this is due to the change in coaching staff and the team’s dynamic.
“My times have gotten a lot better this year. I think that’s because we have a coach who pushes us a lot harder,” Reese said “None of us would be at our best without each other pushing so hard.”
Their scores at the conference meet qualified them for sectionals, where they will compete at Hoffman Estates High School.
