This year, there has been a change in the parking pass system at North. Parking passes are now assigning students their spots instead letting them take up whatever spot is available in the parking lot.
“The change was made so that [the Dean’s Office] could be more precise in our ability to keep track of who is parking and on what days,” said Drew Herrera, Dean of Students. “This is important so that we can ensure that students, who have a spot, are more likely to be able to park in their spot on a daily basis.”
This new system allows for students who have “parking issues” like their spot being taken or not having a spot to park, to report their problem to the Student Life office. This policy makes parking less stressful for the students that drive to North.
“With the old system, students without a pass could park in the lot much more easily since there were not assigned spots, which took away spots from those students who paid,” said Kelsey Keith, Dean of Students. “From a safety perspective, it also allows administrators to know which students are parking in each spot should any emergencies arise.”
To be able to receive a parking pass, a student must sign up on a google form that is sent to North students ahead of time on June 30 before the school year begins. Then on material pickup days, the student will have to fill out the registration forms, show their driver’s license to sign and pay the required fee of $100 for the every-other-day pass.
“You do the google form by June 30,” said Aubrey Warnicke, senior. “Once material pickup comes, that’s when you get the parking pass. But when I was at material pickup, they told me every day parking was an extra hundred, so like two hundred total.”
The decision for these changes was announced at the end of the school year and its details were updated on the North website.
“The change was made solely to benefit students, ensuring that those students, who paid and received a parking tag, will always have a place to park on their assigned day,” said Herrera.
