On Sunday, April 27, the Class of 2026 Student Council is hosting a bags tournament and field day event at the North stadium from 1 to 4 p.m. They are charging $10 per participant and $5 for those interested in spectating. Winners of the tournament will receive prizes donated by local St. Charles businesses.
“It’s going to be bracket style play, so you can sign up with a partner or we will assign you a partner, and you’re essentially playing rounds of bags and then either gaining points or advancing through the bracket,” said Javeria Hasan, student council representative.
Alongside the tournament itself, the event will have food and smaller side games.
“We have side games for teachers who are bringing kids or for people bringing siblings,” said Hasan. “There will also be food trucks.”
The tournament is a brand new fundraising event for the student council budget, acting as a replacement for the SCN Superstar competitions. The proceeds will go towards the student council account and help fund future events like Homecoming or Prom.
“In the past, the junior student council has always done something to raise money for prom, whether that be [through] SCN Superstar, which is basically like a talent show for juniors and seniors. Last year, the past junior class tried to organize that, but they had minimal interest in participating from the student body, so we needed to come up with another big idea that we could push that the whole community could participate in,” said Nour Belhandouz, second vice president of student council.
Student council encourages participating teams to sign up online ahead of time to provide an estimate for the number of teams, but participants can also register when they arrive. They are also in need of extra sets of bags.
“We don’t have many [bag sets] because we aren’t renting any, so we are offering a discounted price for teams that are willing to bring their own bag sets,” said Belhandouz.
After lots of time spent planning and coordinating the details, members of student council look forward to the event and hopes to see a large turnout.
“I’m just excited because it’s our first time, and [we’ve] been planning this since around Homecoming, so it’s been in the works for a long time and I’m curious to see how it’ll turn out,” said Hasan. “It definitely has the potential to be successful.”
