Ever since 8th grade, I have been a consistent lover of roller coasters. I have been on as many as possible from Six Flags, to Cedar Point, to Dollywood and to any random carnival coaster. Upon discovering that I had no fear, no stomach drop feeling and nothing preventing me from enjoying the thrill of roller coasters, I could fully experience and rank all of Great America’s great rides (except Max Force, which is closed every time I am there). Six Flags has a total of 14 thrill rides, including their newest addition, Wrath of Rakshasa. Rating on length, experience, comfort, uniqueness and overall thrill, here are the top five.
At number five is X-Flight. Being mostly smooth, the rider sits with their feet dangling as they glide left to right, doing multiple turns and flips. There is nothing wrong with the coaster, except for the fact that the seat pushes heavily into you at the end of the short ride. Other than that, it is definitely a good starter coaster if you are looking for something less intense than the rest of these ranked rides.
At number four is The Flash: Vertical Velocity. The speed of the ride is amazing, the pause at each top of the coaster gives an awesome thrill and the loud buzzing of the coaster’s movements gives great energy. The Flash would have been ranked higher if it were not so short, as the rider only goes back and forth six quick times.
At number three is Raging Bull. This coaster is nicely long, being 2 minutes and 30 seconds, which is a great and valuable characteristic. Other than the length and the amazing 65-degree slope drop, there is a standard good thrill to it compared to the rest of the list. Raging Bull is definitely worth a long line, but if you want more interesting, unique thrills from roller coasters, the next two are definitely recommended.
At number two is Superman: Ultimate Flight. The cool thing about this coaster is that you are lying on your stomach during the ride. Not only is this an amazing feeling, but this coaster is actually super comfortable. There are times when the coaster has the riders lie down, and taking a nap feels just right. The uniqueness of the experience of Superman is awesome, with comfort and thrill going hand in hand.
At number one is Wrath of Rakshasa, where maximum thrill is reached. This record-breaking diving coaster has the rider temporarily hanging at a 171-foot drop at a 96° angle. Waiting for the new delayed drop made ride feel fresh and exciting in comparison to Great America’s older coasters. Wrath of Rakshasa, released in May, allows for 21 riders per train, with 3 trains running at the same time. This coaster does not disappoint in making sure the rider feels secure, terrified and having fun all at the same time.
All of these roller coasters at Six Flags have different characteristics that make each one fun and unique in its own way. Seeing these as the top five coasters with the most thrill, if you are looking for less thrill rides, try American Eagle, Viper or the Demon. If you do not mind riding a rougher ride that hurts a bit, Goliath and Batman are for you. Do not waste your time with Dark Knight, unless you want a good laugh, or The Joker, unless you want to wait an hour for 20 seconds. The Whizzer and The Little Dipper are more kiddie coasters than actual ones, so if you are up for the challenge of bigger roller coasters this fall, you will not regret going on these top five.
