On Sept. 20, North’s cross country team competed at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois. Junior Sam Hill and sophomore Kara Glenn both broke a school record for the three mile run.
Hill’s time of 14:31.6 broke an 18-year-long record, previously set in 2007 by Chris Desilva with a time of 14:35. Not only did Hill break a long-standing school record, but he also finished with his personal best time.
“My accomplishment was right here at Peoria, at the Detweiler course, and I ran a
14:31, and it was an 18-second improvement,” said Hill.
This milestone is not the end for Hill, who is looking forward to the possibilities this season holds.

“I would say it’s more of a stepping stone, but it is about time that record went down. It’s been out for 18 years, so I was having to just kind of submit my legacy with St. Charles North, and there’s more work to do,” said Hill.
Hill’s goals for the rest of the season include improving his time and a hopeful run at State.
“I want to run 14:10 and hopefully get top five in the state or at least top 10, and just see how that goes,” said Hill.

Glenn’s three mile race in 16:19:7 also broke a school record and was a big accomplishment for Glenn.
“My goals this season are to break 15:40 in the three mile and hopefully win state,” said Glenn.
