As of March 1, 2026, a new star has begun to shine in the middle school wrestling world. 17 year-old Jum Bo is on a 20 match win streak, along with the majority of his matches lasting 10 seconds. His father Gum Bo wanted a bright future for his child, so he decided to hold Jum Bo back in school.
“He was undersized as a 4th grader. Every other kid was twice his size, so we held him back a couple of times. Now Jum is performing tremendously. I am excited to see what he can accomplish, and see what schools will want him,” said Gum Bo.
After his time being held back Jum Bo is now the biggest in his weight class. With most of his competition being under five feet, Jum Bo is around three feet taller than all of them. With these advantages on his side, he is able to break records easily. Along with his already given abilities, Jum Bo continues to work in the weight room. His coach, Chea Ter, is amazed by what Jum Bo is able to lift.
“We usually only allow kids to do body weight exercises. But after we were able to see what Jum can really do, we bought all the weights we could. I believe he is now up to 405 pounds on his bench press,” said Ter.
Some people say that he might be the first ever 7th grader to go to college. His record of 99-1 shows a very promising future for Jum Bo. Many high schools are interested in him, however Jum Bo is aiming higher than just high school.
“I do not want to end up spending four years in high school, when I could just go straight to Penn State,” said Jum Bo.
After Jum Bo’s last meet he retained his win streak, and all of his rounds ended in under 10 seconds. Jum Bo continues to break school records left and right. Ter enjoys having Jum Bo on the team. Ter’s career before Jum Bo was a bleak and non-successful one.
“Bo was a godsend, Having such a powerhouse on the team contributes to our morale and record. At this point, I wouldn’t care if Bo was held back till he was 20. As long as he is able to help us,” said Ter.
As Jum Bo’s career continues to progress, he gains increased popularity in the wrestling world. He seeks more and more opportunities for scholarships. He continues to dominate his bracket with his strength and size.
“Being held back is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Imagine if I wasn’t. I would just be your average high school student, rather than being the greatest wrestler this middle school has ever seen,” said Jum Bo.
