Alyssa Hughes Reaches 1,000-Point Mark

On Nov. 29, Alyssa Hughes, senior girls basketball player for St. Charles North, hit one thousand points out of her entire high school career during a game against Wheaton Warrenville South.

“I think it’s super cool and I’m honored to be one of five people at North to have accomplished scoring 1000 points,” said Hughes, “but credit to my coaching staff and my past and current teammates because they’ve done so much to support me through my four years here.”

Head girls basketball coach Micheal Tomczak expressed his pride and admiration for Hughes.

“We’re so incredibly proud of her, my heart just fills up when I think about all of the things that she’s been able to accomplish,” said Tomczak.

Hughes is one of five female basketball players, since North opened up in 2000, to reach the one thousand-point club.

“By our calculations, she’s reached it the second fastest in history because if you remember, she missed half of a season for COVID. So really, she’s done it in less than three seasons considering we’re not even halfway done. It’s incredibly impressive,” exclaims Tomczak.

Hughes advises athletes to put effort into things they are passionate about in order to improve and reach personal goals.

“You’re going to have tough days or days where you don’t feel like practicing but it’s definitely super important to just keep giving it your best and put forth as much effort as possible,” said Hughes.
