This school year, North welcomed its newest physical education and health teacher, Jacey Kent, who teaches PE I as well as health.
Before coming to North, Kent worked at a high school in Wisconsin and later got her master’s at North Central College in Naperville. She came to North after graduating with her master’s in sports leadership.
“I chose North just because St. Charles is a really good town, and I enjoy it a lot,” Kent said. “I’ve always heard great things about North, just from colleagues and teachers that I had when I was at Lake Park. They always say that North is a great school and just St. Charles schools are great in general.”
Growing up in Lake Park, Kent was very familiar with North and even played them in soccer when she was a Lancer. She also played collegiately at Carthage College in Wisconsin. Her background in soccer has led her to coach a girl’s team at North Central College in the fall, and she will also be helping out with coaching at North for the upcoming spring season for girl’s soccer.
“Mr. Harks and Mr. Wilson both teach PE, so being close colleagues with both of them has helped me get into the soccer game a little bit more here at North,” Kent said.
Kent hopes to get more involved at North in the future. In addition to coaching soccer in the spring, Kent has already participated in North’s winter assembly, but it can be hard to get involved in the first year at a new school. Despite this, Kent feels connected and likes her position because it allows her to interact with and meet all types of students.
“Being so early in my first year here at North, it’s kind of difficult getting involved more into sports and clubs other than soccer, but I think it’s really nice being a PE and health teacher because I get to see a lot more kids than I think a general education teacher would because we get everyone,” Kent said.
Kent has really enjoyed her first year at north, especially getting to connect with freshmen and sophomores who are new to North just like she is.
“It was my first year teaching here at North, it was [the students] first time taking health, so we both get to learn through each other. [I got to learn] what North is about, and [the students] got to learn from me about just health in general, so it’s been nice growing with the kids that I teach,” Kent said.
