Sandy Serewicz has been helping her parents build houses since she was a little girl. She continued this passion as her main job with her husband for years until 2008. Her favorite part of the process was the reward of seeing the house progress. Here at North, Serewicz has seen that same reward with the students she has worked with.
Serewicz has worked in the LRC as an administrative assistant with a focus in media for 14 years. She’s helped countless students print at the LRC. She cherished every moment where she was able to help students, and students were able to help her.
“It’s just rewarding to get to know everyone,” said Serewicz. “It teaches me, as well as I hope to teach others.”
North has been home for her for a long time, as her introduction to the school was not actually her job. Serewicz is a mom to three, all of which graduated from North. After all of her kids graduated, she took on her position.
To Serewicz, the highlight of her career has been watching students grow. She finds that seeing all the freshmen come in so timid and leave so mature and accomplished is her favorite part of her job.
“I’m always at graduation practice, and it’s pretty fun to see everyone and how far they’ve advanced since they started,” said Serewicz. “[I] can’t take full credit for it, but it’s rewarding to see their path. [Students] have accomplished so much between their grades, athletics and clubs. [They’re] amazing.”
Serewicz plans to spend her retirement enjoying her hobbies and her vacation home in Florida. While in Illinois, she enjoys gardening and growing a plethora of vegetables. She also enjoys visiting her kids and grandkids in the area. When it gets colder here, she plans to spend time in Florida. She has a goal to make it all the way around the coast.
Although Serewicz is looking forward to her retirement, she acknowledges it is bittersweet.
“I think I’m like the seniors, it’s bittersweet. It’s exciting and scary,” said Serewicz. “I’m going to miss [the students] and the staff.”
