Meet Your SCN Superstar Contestants

North’s first ever SCN Superstar will be happening Mar. 24 from 7-9:30 p.m. in the main gym. Tickets can be purchased in the front foyer for $5 before school and during lunch periods in the school store from Mar. 21-24. Seven contestants will participate in and be judged on several categories, and the student body will vote on their SCN Superstar. The event will be hosted by Ben Swanson and Bobbiann Dedicatoria. Let’s meet this year’s batch of contestants!

 

Nick Lindsay-Sanchez

Nick Lindsay-Sanchez, junior (Student Council)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “I just thought it would be something fun to do. I’m not really doing anything school-wise.”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “The talent show portion. I got a few friends in it too, so it’ll be fun just seeing how that goes.”

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  • “Beat-boxing. My uncle used to when he was in high school when I was little. But, I didn’t actually start doing it for people until my freshman year.”

What’s your favorite animal?

  • “I’m gonna have to say some form of lizard. I have a pet leopard gecko named Yoshi, so lizards are my favorite for sure.”

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

  • “When people talk and eat at the same time.”

Share a fun fact about yourself

  • “I was home-schooled from 4th grade to 8th grade.”

 

Blake Axelsen

Blake Axelsen, senior (Laure Schulders)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “I thought it would be fun. My English teachers encouraged me to do it.”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “Oh definitely the talent part. It’s the main reason I did it.”

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  • “Stand up. I’ve watched a good amount but I’ve never actually done it.”

What career do you want to have in the future?

  • “I think a realistic one is a history teacher, but my far out one would be a civil engineer.”

What’s one thing you wish you were better at?

  • “Probably handwriting–my handwriting is awful.”

Do you have a dream vacation?

  • “France, like Southern France and the French Alps.”

Bella Filipelli

Bella Filipelli, junior (Laure Schulders)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

“Honestly, it was my boyfriend’s idea. He nominated me and told all his friends to vote for me. It was kind of a surprise, and I was like, ‘You know what, let’s just do it.’”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “Just the experience factor. It’s definitely out of my comfort zone so I thought it’s pretty sick.”

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  • “I’m going to do a photo shoot kind of thing where I show some pictures of my photography.”

What is your favorite subject in school?

  • “My favorite subject is probably math. Unpopular opinion, but math.”

What career do you want to have in the future?

  • “I am training to be a dog groomer.”

What’s your favorite moment of the week?

  • “Probably just getting out of the school parking lot. It’s always a fun experience.”

 

Charlie Hodyl

Charlie Hodyl, senior (Student Council)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “I thought it was funny and I started off kind of just wanting to do it as a joke, but then I kind of got devoted and want to win it now.”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “Probably my act.” 

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  •  “I’m going to figure out how to do a ribbon dance. Not sure how, but I’ll figure it out.”

Favorite moment of the month so far?

  • “Probably getting my mullet.” 

Do you have a dream vacation?

  • “I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii.”

What’s your favorite animal?

  • “Think I’ll go with a giraffe.” 

 

Max Montgomery

Max Montgomery, senior (Student Council)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “I was nominated, and then I just decided to do it.” 

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “I think it’s all out of good fun. No one’s really competing with each other; they just want to give people entertainment and make people laugh.” 

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  •  “Magic. I don’t know many magic [tricks], but I’ll be there.” 

What activities do you participate in?

  • “I play soccer, right now I’m playing ultimate frisbee with the ultimate frisbee team, and I’m on student council.”

Do you have a dream vacation? 

  • “Yeah, going to Bali. I would love to go to Bali.” 

Share a fun fact about yourself.

  • “I like videography and painting a lot. I spend a lot of time doing that.” 

 

Joey Curzon

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “I joined because just over my years growing as a freshman to a senior, it’s a huge thing in the community and in the school–why not be a part of it?”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “I’m just looking forward to seeing all the other contestants and what they’re doing.”

What is the talent you’re going to perform?

  • “I have a little skit I’m going to do. I’m going to do some jokes and then I’m going to sing at the end.”

What is your favorite way to eat potatoes?

  • “Definitely mashed.”

How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?

  • “I respect it a lot. I think it’s very underrated. I like it.”

What’s one fun fact you think people should know about you?

  • “I’m actually into art. I love drawing, just like doodling during class and stuff like that.”

 

Danny Surges

Danny Surges, senior (Student Council)

Why did you join SCN Superstar?

  • “Just watching it, it looks like so much fun. I really care about cultivating the North community and Mr. SCN/SCN Superstar has been a big part of that for many, many years.”

What are you looking forward to most with the competition?

  • “I’m most looking forward to the talent portion. Some peers of mine, their stuff is really funny.”

What talent are you performing?

  • “I’m doing a color guard routine to the song “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons.”

Do you think the toilet paper should go over or under?

  • “Over 100%. That’s how they do it in hotels.”

What would you name your boat if you had a boat?

  • “The SS Surge.”

Do you have any nicknames?

  • “The Surge, Danny Dog, DJ Dog, Dan the Man, Surges.”
