On Monday, Feb. 9, North’s Tri-M Music Honors Society will be holding its second annual recital in North’s Cafeteria at 7 p.m. Tickets cost five dollars and will be available for purchase at the door. Coffee and a variety of desserts will be available. All Tri-M members will perform in either a solo or a small group setting, including a variety of music, such as band, orchestra, vocal and jazz music.
The proceeds from the recital will be used to upgrade the practice rooms in the music wing and generate revenue for Tri-M. Members are hoping to raise money for essential upgrades to the practice rooms, which could greatly improve the productivity of students’ practice.
When speaking of possible practice room upgrades, senior and president of Tri-M Ian Levin said the main focuses were, “Repainting [the practice rooms], [adding] Bluetooth speakers, carpet, better soundproofing [and] mirrors.”
These upgrades would not only enhance the functionality of the practice rooms, but they would also help students improve their musical skills. Adding Bluetooth speakers would make it easier for students to play or sing along with practice tracks, metronomes and other recordings. Carpet helps with soundproofing and would make it easier for musicians who play instruments like the bass to keep their instruments in place. Improved soundproofing would better contain the sound coming from practice rooms, preventing sound from leaking through the hallways. Mirrors provide visual feedback of posture and mouth shape, among other things.
“[These upgrades] would greatly benefit the entire music department, so we are striving to [have] a large attendance, especially from music students,” said Levin.
